PANORA, Iowa – West Liberty’s Cale Oltmanns improved on his opening day score at the boys state golf tournament at Lake Panorama, but he still finished off the pace with a two-day total of 179.

On Friday, he shot 92 and followed that up with around of 87. He finished alone in 43rd place.

The individual state title went to Unity Christian’s Neil Malenke, who shot a two-day total of 153.

L-M softball 1-2 at tourney

LETTS, Iowa – Louisa-Muscatine went 1-2 at its own softball tournament Saturday.

The lone victory for the Falcons was a 3-2 victory over area school West Liberty. L-M took losses against Melcher Dallas and West Burlington.

After leading much of the game against Melcher-Dallas, a six-run seventh erased a 3-2 advantage into an eventual 8-3 loss. The Falcons committed four errors in a 6-4 loss to West Burlington.

In the victory against West Liberty, Jordyn Schaper struck out eight and the Falcons had 12 hits.

ELDRIDGE, Iowa – Muscatine’s freshman softball team salvaged one win from the North Scott Invitational Saturday.

The lone victory for coach Ellen Carey’s Muskies was the final game, a 6-0 win over Davenport Central. Muscatine opened with a

9-1 loss to Wilton and then was blanked 8-0 by the host school, North Scott.

Sarah Lothspeich went

3-for-4 at the plate in garnering half of the Muskies’ hits in the loss to the Beavers. In the win over the Blue Devils, Bailey Blake stuck out nine and walked one and was backed by an error-free defense as the Muskie freshmen open at

1-2.
