MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine Red Sox baseball team swept a doubleheader from the Davenport Stadium Club at Tom Bruner Field on Wednesday night, 2-1 and 8-0.
As a result, the Red Sox (11-6) advance to the Iowa State Semi-Pro baseball tournament for the 11th time in 12 seasons this weekend at Norway, Iowa. Muscatine dropped its first two games last year at the state tournament.
This season, the Red Sox open against Walford, Iowa, at 9 p.m. today in the double-elimination tournament.
If Muscatine wins, it plays at 6 p.m. Saturday. If the Red Sox lose, they’ll return to the diamond at
2 p.m. Saturday.
The state semifinals are set for next weekend at Augustana College, while the championship game will be played at Modern Woodmen Park — home of the Quad-Cities River Bandits — on Sunday, Aug. 9.
John Robinson is the general manager of the team, while Kevin Stinson and Randy Rosa serve as field managers.
