DURANT, Iowa – Durant-Bennett’s football team came away with a 33-14 homecoming win on Friday night over Van Buren.
The Wildcats had scores by Jake Goering, Caleb Fruend, a scoring pass from Skylar Dierikx to Shane Sheahan and a Dierikx field goal.
Coach Barry Bower’s team also scored on a safety in the third quarter. Individual statistics were unavailable.
“We executed pretty well at times,” Bower said. “We left a lot of scores out there – we need to capitalize on those. We left about five scores out there.
“We had fourth and 1 from the five and we didn’t punch it in and we also missed a field goal. But it was an overall great team effort.”
Durant, which improved to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in the district, plays host to West Branch next Friday.

CP-Urbana runs away from Wilton late
WILTON, Iowa – Trailing only 10-3 heading into the fourth quarter, Wilton gave up three touchdowns to Center Point-Urbana in a 31-10 loss on Friday.
The Beavers led 3-0 after the first quarter on a 20-yard field goal by Cale Austin, but a 1-yard touchdown run by Logan Driessen gave the Stormin’ Pointers a lead they would not relinquish.
Kyle Holmes scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Stepleton with 3 minutes, 15 seconds left to go, but CP-U put the game away on Joey Dighton’s second touchdown of the game.
Stepleton led the Beavers defensively with 20 total tackles, including one for a loss.

No. 8 Mid-Prairie upends Columbus
WELLMAN, Iowa – No. 8 Mid-Prairie opened up a 7-0 lead with three touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 28-6 win over Columbus Community on Friday night.
The Golden Hawks had a 60-yard pass play from Michael Aldeman to Mark Aldeman, their second connection of the game for a score. Micah Berg added a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown and Tanner Miller had a chunk of his 99 yards on the night on 50-yard touchdown run.
Columbus avoided the shutout when Rafael Cardenas hooked up with Andrew Villagrana for a 10-yard pass with 1:44 left to go.
Wildcat senior tailback Jared Eichelberger had a game-high 211 yards rushing on 42 attempts. Teammate Luis Aguirre had 13 carries for 99 yards. Steve Lizzarraga led the Columbus defense with eight tackles.

Newland ignites W. Burlington by L-M
WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa – West Burlington/Notre Dame quarterback Taylor Newland accounted for 382 of the team’s 431 yards and five touchdowns as it rolled to a 47-12 win over Louisa-Muscatine on Friday night in Class 2A District 6 action.
In addition to throwing for 216 yards and two scores, Newland rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns to help West Burlington improve to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in district play.
After leading 14-6 at the end of a quarter, West Burlington scored 27 unanswered in the second quarter to grab a 41-6 halftime lead.
L-M (2-5, 1-4) got touchdowns from Lucas Kemp on a 1-yard run and Randy Rogers on a 15-yard touchdown reception.
Brode Hills paced L-M with 71 yards rushing on 15 attempts.

MHS sophs win
MUSCATINE, Iowa – Brayden Woodburn took the first play from scrimmage 65 yards for a touchdown Friday and the Muscatine sophomore football team cruised to a 38-6 rout over Davenport West.
Tyler Lloyd, Earl Wooten, Connor McGriff and Jacob Stych also had touchdowns for the Muskies, who scored 23 first-quarter points to put the game out of reach. Quarterback Austin Sink completed 5 of 10 passes for 122 yards and three touchdowns.
Woodburn led Muscatine with 65 yards rushing, while Wooten had 42 yards on eight carries. The Muskies had 307 yards of offense.
Muscatine’s defense forced six turnovers –five fumbles and an interception. Cortez Barfield had a pair of fumble recoveries. Nick Daly, Kris Treiber and Drake Kulick each recovered one.
