IOWA CITY – After recording only the fourth 10-win regular season in program history, Iowa’s football team was rewarded on the all-Big Ten teams released Monday night.
Iowa had a conference-high seven players selected to the first team by the coaches and head coach Kirk Ferentz was chosen as the league’s top coach for the third time in his tenure.
Offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga, named the conference’s offensive lineman of the year, was named to the first team along with offensive guard Dace Richardson, tight end Tony Moeaki, defensive end Adrian Clayborn, linebacker Pat Angerer and defensive backs Tyler Sash and Amari Spievey.
Bulaga is the sixth Hawkeye offensive lineman to win lineman of the year accolades and first since Robert Gallery in 2003.
He, along with Clayborn, Angerer and Sash, were also chosen to the first team by the media.
Linebacker A.J. Edds, center Rafael Eubanks and wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos were selected to the second team by the coaches. Kyle Calloway and safety Brett Greenwood made the media’s second team.
Meanwhile, Ferentz was named the league’s top coach in 2002 and 2004.
Michigan’s Bo Schembechler is the only coach in league history to have won the honor more times.
Ferentz, the program’s second-winningest coach, has a career record of 92-76 and 80-55 at Iowa.
Wisconsin tailback John Clay was named the league’s offensive player of the year by the coaches, while Penn State defensive tackle Jared Odrick earned the defensive honor.
