Muskies 15th, 16th at C.R. meet

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – In a highly competitive meet hosted by Cedar Rapids Jefferson with several ranked schools out of 20, the Muscatine boys placed 15th and the girls cross country team was 16th at Noelridge Park Thursday.

Iowa City High swept the girls and boys team title with 40 and 51 points, respectively.

The Muskie girls scored 432 points for their finish and Muscatine’s boys scored 426.

Lindsay Brunson led the Muskies with her 50th-place finish in 16 minutes, 34 seconds.

“It was a tough race,” Muscatine girls coach Tim Armstrong said. “Six schools in the top 15 in Class 4A were there and two top 3A schools were also there. So, it was a tough field.

“We dropped time – most, if not all dropped – but we have to go faster. It’s encouraging, but we can improve.”

The top finisher among the Muskie boys was Jason Kenyon, who took 39th in 17:25.

“Many varsity runners had their PR (personal best) for the season,” Muscatine boys coach Chris Foxen said. “The competition at the meet was outstanding. Most teams present are ranked in 4A or 3A. The Muskies competed hard and dug in.”

The Muscatine boys’ team bus broke down on the way to Cedar Rapids, so the girls team bus had to come back to pick them up.

Complete girls results were unavailable.
