LETTS, Iowa – Louisa-Muscatine ended its 14-game losing streak with a convincing 26-7 win over Class A New London on Friday night.

The Falcons (1-1) picked off Tigers’ quarterback Kyle Helmerson four times, with two picks coming from Cole Schreurs.

“It was a great win for coach (Guy) Dierikx,” L-M assistant coach Tom McCleery said. “We’ve been working hard in the off-season and it paid off. It was a great effort against a bigger team.”

L-M had 11 penalties for 100 yards, but overcame that with an overall steady effort offensively. Quarterback Lucas Kemp was perfect in four attempts for 122 yards through the air. Brode Hills rushed 11 times for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Nathan Carle caught two of Kemp’s passes for 104 yards and the opening touchdown.

“We made a tremendous amount of mistakes,” McCleery said, “but it wasn’t enough to bring them down.”
