MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — After a strong runner-up finish at last week’s regional meet, Muscatine High School diver Sarah Martin failed to make the cut at Friday night’s state meet at the Marshalltown YMCA.

Martin placed 35th out of 36 divers, finishing ahead of Bettendorf’s Elizabeth Fry.

Southeast Polk junior Kasey Williams won the diving competition with 385.30 points. Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s Savannah Schott was second (379.45) and Johnston’s Dahlia Gordon was third (379.10).

In fact, Burlington’s Bena Peterson was the top finisher among the qualifiers from the Muscatine Regional, finishing 19th with a total of 229.15.

Martin finished with 121.95 points in the preliminary round.

The senior will swim in three relay events today at the state meet.

The swimming starts at 12:30 p.m. Muscatine will participate in five events — the 200 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. Hannah Eichelberger will swim in the 50 freestyle and Jennifer Littlejohn will compete in the 100 breaststroke.
