MUSCATINE, Iowa – A week after his wife won an ultra marathon event in Danville, Ill., Chris Foxen collected another plaque for the family Saturday morning at the 32nd annual Watermelon Stampede.

Foxen, the head boys’ cross country coach at Muscatine High School, won the men’s 10K

(6.2 miles) open division with a time of 36 minutes and 59 seconds.

Meanwhile, Muscatine’s Kelsey Beeding, a former champion of the Stampede, captured the open division on the women’s side with a time of 42:35.

Muscatine’s Jackie Liebmann won the women’s 5K (3.1 miles) in 20:50, while Columbus Junction’s Sam Chaney earned the top honor in the men’s 5K in 16:15.

The race, which returned to the downtown area this year, featured more than 275 runners.

The other champions  were Iowa City’s James Pelsang in the men’s 5K master division (19:08), Muscatine’s Lisa Hughes in the women’s 10K master division (48:24), Urbandale’s Lee Hammerand in the men’s 10K master division (37:16) and Muscatine’s Teri Lyon in the women’s 5K master division (24:45).
