COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa – No. 3 Coe College made easy work of Central College in an Iowa Conference wrestling dual at Columbus Community High School on Wednesday.
The Kohawks defeated the Dutch, 35-3, taking all the contested matches except for an 8-6 decision by Central’s Josh Atwell at 141 pounds.
Several area wrestlers are on the Coe roster and one is on the Central roster, but none saw action.
All of the Kohawk wrestlers from the area were out because of injury, including Seth Pugh (Columbus) and Josh Marin (West Liberty). Central’s Treaver Willis also didn’t wrestle.
“This is great,” said Coe coach John Oostendorp, a West Liberty High School graduate. “I hope Central decides to do it again. There are great wrestlers in this area.
“There weren’t as many area kids (wrestling) as when we scheduled it.”
