MUSCATINE, Iowa — Mary Elizabeth Hindbaugh, 71, Muscatine, died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Private graveside services will be held. There will be no visitation.

Interment will be at Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jeffrey S. Nichols - Garden Ridge Funeral and Cremation Services is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mrs. Hindbaugh was born Sept. 29, 1937, in Jackson, Miss., the daughter of Bud and Pearl Hudgins Hazelwood. She married Otis Hindbaugh Nov. 2, 1956, in Muscatine.

She had been employed as a can plant supervisor at Heinz USA, but most recently was a homemaker.

In her teen years, she was a model for Bamford Studio. She enjoyed boating, camping, traveling, painting, remodeling, working out with Jack La Lane and watching soap operas.

She donated to many charities especially St. Jude’s and In-Touch Ministries. She was an excellent cook.

Her family was most important to her, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Otis Jr. and wife, Shawne of Muscatine; three daughters, Terry Hindbaugh, Vickie Meerdink and Julie Andreas, all of Muscatine; eight grandchildren, Jacob White, Zachary Meerdink, Matthew Lower, Sondra Phelps, Dustin Andreas, Benjamin Hindbaugh, Mikhala Meerdink and Carly Hindbaugh; four great-grandchildren, Austin Meerdink, Brock Meerdink, Kyler Ziegenhorn and Ava Fusco; three brothers, Bud Hazelwood, Jr., Darrell Hazelwood and Patrick Hazelwood; five sisters, Margaret Brown, Sharon Schultheis, Debbie Phillips, Marylin Ahlf and Betty Carter; and a dear friend, Lucille Hurlbut.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otis Sr.; four brothers, James, Johnnie, Howard, Ronnie; a sister Patricia; a son, Jerry and a grandson, Trevor White.
