Bueford “Jack” Martin
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, funeral home, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service.
LONE TREE, Iowa — Bueford “Jack” Martin, 74, of Lone Tree, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, following a sudden illness.
Loren Yoder and the Reverend Susan M. Barnes will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery, with military rites by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue in memory of Jack. Sympathy notes may be left for Jack’s family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Bueford Dean Martin was born on February 17, 1935 in Iowa City, the son of John and Merle (Schweffler) Martin.
He graduated from Iowa State University with his bachelors in Agronomy.
He served with the United States Marines from 1957–1959.
He married Virginia Wohlhueter in Donnellson, on Aug. 10, 1963.
He was a farmer in the Lone Tree area his entire life.
He was a member of the Abner Masonic Lodge of Lone Tree, Davenport Consitery, KAABA Shrine Temple of Davenport, the Camel Wheel Shrine Club of Iowa City, and the Jessamine Order of the Eastern Star, served as a Grand Sentinel for the State of Iowa.
Jack enjoyed working, playing cards, singing, traveling with the Shrine Club, his afternoon breaks at Moco with his wife, and visiting with friends.
Jack will be deeply missed by his wife, Virginia of Lone Tree, and many friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Herman Martin.
