LONE TREE, Iowa — Dorothy Vivian Kirkpatrick, 83, of Lone Tree, died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.  

The Rev. Rick Crooks will officiate. 

Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery at a later date. 

Memorials may be made to the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue in memory of Vivian.  Sympathy notes may be left at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com

Mrs. Kirkpatrick was born Nov. 26, 1925, in Severn, Md. the daughter of Woodside Emory and Dorothy M. (Taylor) Warfield. 

She was a graduate of Glen Burnie High School in Maryland. 

She met John Lowry Kirkpatrick at Fort Meade, Md ., while she was working as a base telephone operator.  She  married him Sept. 12, 1943, in Glen Burnie, Md. 

After moving to Iowa, she worked for Proctor and Gamble in Iowa City, retiring after 25 years of service. 

She was a member of Fern Leaf Chapter of the Eastern Star until they consolidated with Emma Beckman in Columbus Junction, finally joining Jessamine Chapter in Iowa City. 

While in Lone Tree she held the office of Worthy Matron for 15 years, appointment as Grand Representative, two terms as Grand Chapter Committee Member for Grand Chapter of Iowa OES, more than 50 year member of T.T.T. and a charter member of the Lone Tree Women's Club. 

She enjoyed playing bridge, crossword puzzles, and reading, but most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her family including her cats.

She will be deeply missed by her five daughters, Lexie Kirkpatrick, Dows, Barbara Lips,  Marion, Margaret Hahn and husband, Wendall, Iowa City, Connie Nordstrom and husband, Fred, Polk City, and Anna Emerson, Iowa City and Missouri; two grandchildren, Scott Lips and wife, Terri and daughter, Kaitie Panka, Bill Nordstrom and wife, Marcella; step-granddaughter, Katie Downing and husband, Jay and son, Jace; three great-grandchildren, Iylea Nordstrom, Lillian Nordstrom and Cullen Nordstrom.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; a son, Woody John Kirkpatrick; a son-in-law, Hank Emerson; a brother, Woodside Emory and a sister, Mildred Shaeffer.
