WEST LIBERTY, Iowa —Clara I. Messner, 86, Frytown, formerly of West Liberty, died peacefully at the home of her daughter in Frytown Tuesday, April 7, 2009.
The Rev. Doug Cue will officiate.
Burial will be at the Tipton Masonic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice or Pathways Adult Day Health Center in Iowa City.

Mrs. Messner was born Feb. 6, 1923, in Cedar County, the daughter of Alexander and Mary Schutt Achenbach.
She graduated from Stanwood High School.
She married Roger Messner June 21, 1941, in Kahoka, Mo.
She worked for a time at Carr’s Lunch Car and Louis Rich in West Liberty.
She spent the majority of her life in West Liberty until the last few years which she spent with her daughter in Frytown.
She attended the West Liberty Senior Center where she enjoyed playing cards and bingo.
She also attended the Sharon Center United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her five children, Bill Messner and wife, Sue of Sterling, Colo., Denny Messner and wife, Sharon of Porter, Okla., Wayne Messner and wife, Pat of West Liberty, Linda Brown of Essex and Christa Roberts and husband, Jim of Frytown; two sisters, Mildred Dice of Tipton and Velma Hegarty of Stanwood.
She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger in 1990; three brothers, Walter, Charlie, and Earl Achenbach; and two sisters, Beulah Jones and Nola Howard.
