FOUNTIN HILLS, Ariz. — Kenneth Dale Houseal, 77, Fountain Hills, Ariz., died Oct 2, 2009, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Mr. Houseal was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Donald and June Houseal.

Following graduation from Conesville High School in 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Korea during the War aboard the U.S.S. Marshall as a barber.

Following the war, he attended Barber College in Des Moines. While there, he met Elaine Blythe who was attending Beauty School. They married the next year in 1956.

He opened and ran the Mulberry Barber Shop in Muscatine through 1969.

They had two sons and adopted a Korean born daughter.

He was actively involved in the First Assembly of God.

After a two year stay in Arizona, the family moved to Pella, Iowa, where he ran the local Dairy Queen. Eight years later, they moved back to Arizona where he operated the Youngtown Barber Shop. After 14 years, they moved back to Pella where he successfully practiced real estate for eight years and attended the Nazarene Church.

One last move in 2001 to Fountain Hills, Ariz., for retirement and time to golf, fish and spend time with his family who had all relocated to the Valley with their families.

He is survived by his wife of 53 1/2 years, Elaine; sons, Kevin and Kyle and their wives, Donna and Talia. of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a daughter, Kim of Mesa, Ariz., and two grandchildren, Arthur and Skyler.

His joyful sense of humor was repeatedly celebrated at a service held with his First Baptist of Fountain Hills church family on Oct. 7.

The family then attended a committal ceremony with military honors at the National Cemetery of Arizona.
