WALCOTT, Iowa — Willis H. Kappeler, 85, Walcott, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
The Rev. Connie Markle will officiate.
Serving as casketbearers will be Jeffrey Kappeler, James Kappeler Jr. Clint McKinley, Joey Carlson, Russell Otto, Curtis McKinley, David Johnson and Andy Perdue. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Rochelle Lane, Lori Rochholz, Kesha Curry, Rebecca Bills, Carissa McKinley, Danielle Meana, Kimberly Kappeler, Natalie Luchsinger and Sara Perdue.
Musical selections will be provided by organist Dorothy Gibson and vocalist Henry Bentley.
Memorials may be made to the Willis Kappeler Memorial Fund, to be given to his favorite charities in his memory.
Mr. Kappeler was born Feb. 14, 1924, the son of Edward and Hilda (Evers) Kappeler in Scott County. He married Marion J. Kraklio n Oct. 25, 1947, in Davenport.
He farmed for 24 years in Scott County. He later drove truck for Grunder Ready-Mix in Durant for 23 years, retiring in 1994. For many year, he worked at the Walcott Cemetery.
He was a member of the Walcott Community Club. He enjoyed fast pitch softball, playing cards, woodworking, going to craft shows and farm sales. He loved going to county fairs and watching his family show livestock.
He also enjoyed Belgium horseshows.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Marion Kappeler of Walcott; her children, Jim Kappeler and wife, Ann of Bettendorf, Larry Kappeler and wife, Kathy of Walcott, Sue Otto and husband, Gene of Durant, and Barb Johnson and husband, Dan of Muscatine; 30 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and a brother, Everett Kappeler of Lady Lake, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Kappeler.
