MUSCATINE, Iowa – Jerry D. Howard, 70, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
The Rev. Teressa Clark will officiate the service. Burial will be at Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Online condolences may be left at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Mr. Howard was born Aug. 26, 1938, in Oskaloosa, the son of Luther ‘Pat’ and Thelma Neil Howard. He married Beverly Brown Dec. 30, 1962, in Olds. She preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2007.
He received his bachelor’s from Parsons College in Fairfield.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served in Spain.
He retired from Bandag in 2001.
He was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ, IA Lodge No. 2 AF & AM, Davenport Consistory, and Kaaba Temple Shrine.
He had a passion for flying, was an avid motorcyclist, enjoyed his custom cars, he also loved to sky dive and scuba dive and enjoyed woodworking and international travel.
He was very involved with his church, and loved his dog, Abbie, and especially loved all the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Those who are left to honor his memory include his son, Trevor Howard and wife, Mindy, of Leawood, Kan.; a daughter, Nikki M. Dorr and husband, Marc, of Eldridge; five grandchildren, twins, Reagan and Luke Howard, Blake Howard, Carter Dorr, and Chloe Dorr; and three sisters, Madelyn Walker of Eddyville, Carol Sue Beason of Oskaloosa, and Joan Hughes of Beacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
