WEST LIBERTY, Iowa — Gerald P. “Jew” Leggins, 86, formerly of Atalissa, died Monday Nov. 3, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Mr. Leggins was born Nov. 5, 1921, in Grinnell, the son of William and Lillian Marticke Leggins. He attended Atalissa High School. He served in the Army Calvary from Oct 21, 1942 – Oct 21, 1945.
He married Evelyn Henderson June 6, 1948, in West Liberty. They lived in Atalissa for many years prior to moving to West Liberty.
He had been employed at Otto’s Quarry, Pantel Ready Mix and for many years Liqui Grow in West Liberty, Walcott and Durant until his retirement.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Coffman and husband, Phil of Cedar Rapids, a son, Tom Leggins and wife, Kristin of Lawrence, Kan.; six grandchildren, Justin and Heather Coffman, Brock, Bryce, Pace and Pride Leggins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; a son, Tim; a sister, Ova Leggins; and three brothers, Gaylord, Cleo and Kenneth.
