MUSCATINE, Iowa – Grace S. Bauer, 95, of Muscatine, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Bickford Cottage.
The Rev. Don Swanson of the First Baptist Church will officiate along with the Rev. Robert Veninga and the Rev. Robert Shaw. Casketbearers will be Joel Nietzel, Todd Nietzel, Matt Guldenpfennig, Jack Smit, Ted Small, and Josh Carthey. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will follow the committal service at First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Bauer was born on Jan. 18, 1913, in Muscatine, the daughter of Antoon and Grace Meertens Smit Sr. She married Robert A. Bauer on July 25, 1938, in Muscatine. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1999.
She was a 50 plus year member of the First Baptist Church, served in church offices, and as pianist in the Beginner Department for many years. She also belonged to PEO Chapter OE.
She, along with her husband and daughter, Nancy, loved to travel the world.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Alberta Smit and Gretchen Brei; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Nancy Bauer on Jan. 16, 1998, three brothers, David, Pieter, and Antoon Smit Jr., and two sisters, Jennie Wickey and Christine Lorber.
