MUSCATINE, Iowa – Jack D. Reichert, 73, Muscatine, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, after a long battle with melanoma cancer.

As per Jack’s wishes, his body has been cremated.

Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  

Mr. Reichert was born Oct. 5, 1936, in Muscatine, the son of Oliver and Wilma Fischer Reichert. He married his wife, Dorothy, Dec. 19, 1959, in Rock Island, Ill.

They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in December.

He was a life long resident of Muscatine where he had farmed all of his life.

He had served as a military policeman, while he was in the U.S. Army.

He enjoyed fishing, Iowa Hawkeye Sports and stock car races at West Liberty and Columbus Junction. He also enjoyed livestock shows of 4-H and FFA at the West Liberty Fair.

He attended Island United Methodist Church and was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 388.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Reichert of Muscatine; four sons, Kenneth Reichert and wife, Idalia, of Tipton, Jeff Reichert and wife, Joanna, of Tipton, Kevin Reichert and wife, Nancy, of Muscatine, and Darren Reichert and wife, Malinda, of Muscatine; 15 grandchildren, Jamie, Jake, Jackie, Jessica, Justine, Kristopher and Kencito, all of Tipton, Danielle, Hope, D.J., Aimee, Dalton, Drake, Evan and Meghan of Muscatine; six great-grandchildren, Jaydon, Addy, Lucy, Kaylee, and Peyton of Tipton, and Riley of Muscatine; two brothers, Paul Reichert and wife, Jaci of Muscatine and Jerry Reichert of Muscatine; five sisters, Vera Webb of Muscatine, Pauline Webb of Muscatine, Loretta Drawbaugh of Muscatine, Sandy Vanwinkle and husband, Howard of Bettendorf, and Pat Blake and husband, Bill of Bettendorf.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Ronnie, Richard, Bob and Oliver Reichert Jr. and three sisters, Gertrude Brown, Jean Thorp and Donna Mae Reichert.
