DECATUR, Ill. — Geraldine LaJune McGill, 93, of Decatur, formerly of rural Muscatine, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at the Fair Haven Christian Home in Decatur.
The Rev. Kimberly Bowles will officiate.
Casket bearers will be Mike McGill, Christopher King, Billy Canady, Steve Canady, Scott Canady and Mike Flanagan.
Burial will be at Indian Creek Cemetery. Following the committal services a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Island United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to benefit the Grandview Park Fund and the Indian Creek Cemetery in Geraldine's name. Sympathy notes may be left at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Mrs. McGill was born Jan. 18, 1916, in Letts, Iowa, the daughter of John Walter and Iva Flora (Orr) Kemp.
She married William rollie Canady Dec. 10, 1938, in Norgalles, Ariz. He died in 1943. She then married Earl Wayne McGill in 1946 , and he died in 1970.
She lived on the Muscatine Island for most of her married life. She was employed by HON Industries as a line worker.
She was also a published author. She loved gardening, fishing with her grandkids, raising animals, going to auctions, collecting antique fruit jars and being with her family.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Wilber Canady and wife, Bernadine of Wapello, Earl McGill Jr. and wife, Nancy of Letts, Denny McGill and wife, Laurie, of Rhinelander, Wis., Kenneth McGill of Decatur, Shelby McGill King of Decatur and her daughter-in-law, Mary Canady of Muscatine; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; an infant daughter, Iva; a son, William Wayne Canady, four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Robert and Donald Kemp.
