ATALISSA, Iowa —  Velda Gladys Werling, 89, Atalissa, died Tuesday, Oct., 20, 2009, at Greenwood Manor, Iowa City.

The Rev. Ron Lashmit will officiate. 

Mrs. Werling, was born Feb. 14, 1920, in Cedar County, the daughter of Peter and Stella DeMean.  

She attended country school at Rochester and Springdale while growing up.  She married Vernon Gilbert Werling, in Cedar Rapids, Oct. 10, 1951.

She was a member of Oak Hill Club and attended Rochester Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Betty O'Rourke and husband, Dan of Fulton, Mo., Nancy Telleen and husband, Brian of Atalissa; sons, John Werling Mary Sward of Muscatine, Robert Werling and wife, Louise of Atalissa; daughter-in-law, Penny Werling of Atalissa; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vernon Werling May 5, 1987; five brothers, three sisters.
