MUSCATINE, Iowa —James M. Dorris, 79, of Muscatine, Iowa passed away on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City. 

Casketbearers will be Gary Umlandt, Roger Dorris, Claude Dorris, James Dorris, Owen Dorris and Matthew Dorris.

 Burial will be in Musca-tine Memorial Park Ceme-tery with full military rites  by the combined units of the V.F. W Post 1565 and the American Legion Post #27. 

Following the interment a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Community Room. 

 A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in James’ name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the Dorris family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com

James Monroe Dorris was born on Jan. 11, 1930, in Cross Plains, Tenn., the son of Claude and Mary Sue (Hesson) Dorris. 

He proudly served his country in the United States Marines from 1948-52.  On He married Lila G. Mooney-han in Pittsburgh, Penns.  Nov. 1, 1958.

He  worked as a fabrication welder for Boilermaker in Kansas City for many years and was a member

of  Local 40 in Elizabethtown, Ky.  

He greatly enjoyed spending time with family.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Lila of Muscatine; his children, James Dorris, Jr. and his wife, Tammy of Indiana, Diana Dorris of Irving, Texas, Roger Dorris of Dallas, Texas and Claude Dorris of Wylie, Texas; three grandchildren, Owen, Matthew and Sarah; and five sisters, Ann Coyle of Shepherdsville, Ky., Peggy Bird of Louisville, Ky., Joyce Fow of Indiana, Donna Smith of Louisville, Ky. and Laura Kay and her husband, Louie of Louisville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Claude.
