WITTMAN, Ariz. — Lewis L. Wheeler, 73, Wittman Ariz., died Thursday April 30, 2009, at his home. He was cremated per his request, with no burial planned.

Mr.  Wheeler was born Jan. 29, 1936, in Louisa County, Iowa, the son of Chester R. and Francis Louise (Gladwell) Wheeler.

He married Marle C. Spitznogle Jan. 24, 1953, in Muscatine.

He worked as a journeyman roofer and belonged to the roofing union. He also owned A&W Roofing Co. for 15 years. He enjoyed building his home in Wittman , and was learning to use solar and wind turbine power.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marle of Wittman; two sons, Larry Wheeler and wife, Peggy, of Tulsa, Okla., Mark Wheeler and wife, Grace of Muscatine; three daughters, Cathy Weikert and husband, Terry, of Muscatine, Debra Wheeler of New Boston, Ill., and Sandra Miller and husband, Orville, of Muscatine; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; Mr. and Mrs. James Russell and family of Wittman Ariz.; three brothers, Lornel “Sonny” Wheeler and wife, Ann, David Wheeler and William Wheeler and wife, Marlene, all of Muscatine; 11 sisters, Dorothy Reichert and husband, Jack of Muscatine, Mrs. Betty Lou Coppens of Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Dick (Mary Ann) Jones of Glendale, Ariz., Mrs. Dale (Ruth) Curtis of Muscatine,  Mrs. Bill (Lillie) Leach of Muscatine, Mrs. Sonny (Laura) Hahn of Muscatine, Mrs. Albert (Alice) Hooker of Muscatine, Mrs. Robert (Francis) McAtee of Muscatine, Fannie McConnaha of Muscatine, Mrs. Ben (Linda)West of Muscatine and Mrs. John (Barbara) Mathis of Muscatine.

 He was the proud grandfather of three grandsons in the military and one granddaughter by marriage who are serving their country.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother, Marie Wheeler; two brothers, Robert and Donald Lee, and a sister, Leona May;  and  a son-in-law David Rohde.
