ILLINOIS CITY, Ill. — Dorothy Lloyd, 80, Illinois City  died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Unity Hospital, Muscatine.

Burial will be at Edgington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Mrs. Lloyd was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Aledo, the daughter of Dow and Della (Beeding) Ripley. She married Lowell Lloyd Sept. 2, 1949, at the First Baptist Church, Aledo.

She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. “Mom” as Dorothy was called, loved taking care of everyone, especially cooking for everyone. She was generous with her time and enjoyed helping others.

She attended Western Illinois University, obtaining her teachers certificate.

She taught prior to her marriage. In later years she was the study hall monitor at Rockridge High School. She was also an administrative assistant at the Mercer County Hospital.

Those left to cherish Dorothy’s memory include her husband, Lowell; her children, Warren Lloyd and wife, Marcia of Reynolds; Melanie Peck and husband, Ted of Galena, Mo.,  and Jay Lloyd and wife, Julie of Illinois City; five grandchildren, Justin Lloyd, Kelly Howell, Carri Jones, Tanner Lloyd and Jordan Lloyd.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lyle and Henry Clay Ripley and two sisters, Alta Brown and Ruth Frye.
