MUSCATINE, Iowa - Lloyd I. "Lum" Beatty, 83, Muscatine, died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Beatty was born Sept. 18, 1923, in Fulton County, Ill., the son of L. Ross and Nellie Lybarger Beatty. He married Darlene Phillips on Jan. 16, 1948, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death Dec. 25, 1981.
He worked as office manager for Northern Gravel for 53 years, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 304, Wesley United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge No. 388 and the A.R.E.A. Foundation. He was one of four gentlemen who formed the A.R.E.A. Foundation and received a volunteer award from Gov. Terry Branstad in 1984, because of those efforts.
He was an avid fisherman, gardener and enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include a son, Cary Beatty and wife Kristin of North Liberty; a daughter, Bobbie Hershberger and husband Ed of Kalona; two grandchildren, Bethanie Hawkins and Tyler Hershberger; and a sister, Iris Davis of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Lyle Beatty.
