MUSCATINE, Iowa — Last year, the Muscatine High School Student Council added the game of Man Ball to the list of events it uses to raise money for its annual food drive.
This year, the females get equal time with their game, Lady Ball.
Freshman Cord Kleist, a Ball Games Committee co-chairman, said the Council will introduce Lady Ball, a girls’ dodge ball game, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in the MHS gym, 2705 Cedar St.
Man Ball, a mens’ volleyball tournament, takes place at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
The tournaments involve up to 16, six-member teams.
The community is invited to attend both games. Admission to each event is $2 or four non-perishable food items.
MHS science teacher Pam Joslyn, who advises the Council with counselor elena bobay (sic), said more than 100 people attended the Man Ball game last year.
“A lot of parents come out and watch,” said senior Erin Meyer, the Council vice president and coordinator for the ball games. “Last year was a big success.”
Kleist said the teams come up with names and have T-shirts made for the players.
The entry fee for Man Ball is $30 per team. The Lady Ball fee is $12. Teams can sign up through Friday, Oct. 30.
Other upcoming Council events include:
— Haunted High School, 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at MHS. Admission: $2 or four cans of non-perishable food items. Costume contest entry fee: $1 or two non-perishable food items.
— Blood drive from 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 9, at MHS. People who can’t make it to the high school can donate at the Mississippi Valley Blood Center in Muscatine and designate their donation for the MHS Student Council.
