MUSCATINE, Iowa — Some of Muscatine’s speciality businesses have been on the move recently.
The Shop 2 Drop upscale consignment shop and Past Time Antiques and Uniques, two former downtown Muscatine businesses, have moved to the Muscatine Mall and Park Avenue, respectively.
But another new shop has set up business in the downtown area.
Peggy Simpson, owner of Pastime Pleasure Ceramics and Cafe re-opened her 2-year-old business on June 10 at 114 E. Second St. She had previously operated the business out of her house
Simpson’s new shop features a cafe and a welcome addition of space.
“I had some really good regular customers who came to my home,” said Simpson. “But people didn’t seem to want to go to a residence.”
Pastime Pleasure Ceramics and Cafe will feature special pricing on its food and drinks during Muscatine’s Great River Days Treasure Hunt during business hours on Saturday.
Simpson gives lessons in the art of painting and finishing ceramics and her shop features studio space, paint and unfinished pieces for those who want to create ceramics.
Sandwiches, side dishes, snacks and beverages are served in the cafe.
Sharon Schnedler, owner of Past Time Antiques and Uniques, opened her shop at 215 E. Second St. in 2004.
She moved to 1003 Park Ave. June 1, and enjoys having her own parking lot there.
She said she’s seeing many new faces along with her loyal, longtime customers.
Past Time Antiques and Uniques features a variety of antiques and collectiables, including glassware, primitives and furniture.
Jeannie Thompkins, who co-owns Shop 2 Drop with Becky Allison, said she enjoys the greater
availability of parking offered at Muscatine Mall.
Thompkins and Allison began operating Shop 2 Drop two years ago after they bought the former Twice as Nice resale shop at 201 E. Second St.
The business opened at its new location June 1, and Thompkins said she and Allison are pleased with the customer flow.
Shop 2 Drop Upscale Resale features clothing from formal to casual and takes items on a consignment basis.
