WILTON, Iowa —Hairstylists Terri Denkman and Paula Walton have updated their look.

The Wilton ladies have been in business together for 19 years, operating Terri and Paula’s Beauty Salon, which has a new and freshly remodeled location.

“This is a change we were happy to make. The location is much better and we love the building,” Paula said of the salon’s new home at 1015 W. Fifth St. in Wilton. They moved there in April from 401 Cedar St., an older building in downtown Wilton.

Walton, 42, has lived in Wilton for 20 years and likes the size of the small town and providing services for the people she has grown to think of as family.

“It’s so nice when you get to know your customers,” Walton said.

Denkman, 45, is a Wilton native and works full time as the Wilton Community Schools food service director. Everywhere she goes, the friendly people of Wilton greet her.

“They either say, ‘Oh, she cuts my hair’ or ‘That’s the lunch lady,’ if they don’t know my name,” Denkman said.

Each beautician has customers who they’ve been styling for more than 20 years. Denkman had the salon on Cedar Street for four years before she and Walton decided to go into business together. Before that, Walton was a hairstylist in Bettendorf and Durant.

“I have had generations of families get their hair cut by me and some of my old customers drive to Wilton to see me,” Walton said.

Denkman and Walton are proud of the new location, which has been brightly painted and has new shelving and equipment for their fresh beginning. The full-service salon offers haircuts, hair coloring, perms, waxing and tanning.

The building sat vacant for several years but used to house Holiday Auto Clinic and a veterinary clinic prior to that.

Walton is typically at the salon during the daytime and Denkman works on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
