UPDATED 12:16PM: Donald Ivan Goodwin was charged with eluding a law enforcement officer according to complaints filed at the Muscatine County Courthouse this morning.
Goodwin, 48, 1904 Oneida Ave., Muscatine, allegedly failed to stop when an officer attempted to pull him over for careless driving. Goodwin reached speeds in excess of 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. The arrest was made at West Eighth and Climer streets.
Officials said Goodwin smelled of alcohol and had mumbled speech and blood shot eyes.
Goodwin posted $500 bond and was released from Muscatine County Jail. The charge is a class B felony with a maximum prison term of 25 years.
More charges may be filed, according to police.
EARLIER STORY: MUSCATINE, Iowa — The Muscatine Police Department released few details this morning about a vehicle pursuit at 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Eighth Street.
Lt. Brett Talkington confirmed that there was a pursuit but said that the incident report was not complete and the responding officer was not in today to give details. Police logs available to the press indicate that an arrest was made at 4:33 p.m. in relation to the accident.
Charges are pending, Talkington said.
The Muscatine Fire Department responded to a vehicle accident at Eighth and Climer streets that was related to the chase. One person was taken to Unity Hospital by ambulance.
