MUSCATINE, Iowa – Mayor Dick O’Brien won his eighth term Tuesday night in Muscatine, while Scott Natvig claimed the at-large seat on the City Council.
O’Brien received 1,048 votes, while opponents Dawnese Openshaw and Kim Otto received 730 and 66, respectively.
Natvig, a 30-year Muscatine resident, ran against Allen Harvey and Devin Pettit. He received 1,012 votes, with Harvey receiving 405 and Pettit receiving 377. Natvig was not immediately available for comment.
O’Brien said he and his friends were “more relaxed” after the results came in Tuesday night.
“I plan on finding ways to help our community in a positive way,” Openshaw said. “My hope is to do it [run for mayor] again. I’m more about doing.”
Otto was not immediately available for comment.
Mark LeRette won the Ward 2 seat with 198 votes and Bob Bynum reclaimed his seat in Ward 4 with 177 votes.
Of the 20,762 registered voters in Muscatine County, 2,938 voted. In 2007, 3,026 voted.
In other elections held in Muscatine County:
Atalissa: Joe Blick received 7 votes, winning the mayoral seat.
Michael Haller and Jerrod McMichael received at-large seats with 19 and 6 votes, respectively.
Conesville: Darrell Bennett was elected mayor with 55 votes. Saul Ponce and Sue O’Donnell received at-large seats with 40 and 46 votes, respectively.
Fruitland: DeWayne Walter received 138 votes and the mayoral seat. Scott Wilson, Perry Anderson and Rick Honts won the at-large seats with 181, 160 and 140 votes, respectively.
Nichols: Russel Grim, Richard Hillyer, Ron Oostendorp, Marvin Wilson and Cindy Massey were elected to the at-large seats. Results for the mayoral race were not immediately
available as of press time.
Stockton: Donald Woodford Sr. won the mayoral seat with 25 votes. Roger Bennett and David Clark received 18 and 25 votes, respectively, winning at-large seats.
West Liberty: Chad Thomas won the mayor seat with 98 votes. Clinton Ebenshade and Robert Hartman won at-large seats with 69 and 97 votes, respectively. The West Liberty Public Measure E passed with 83 percent of the vote.
Wilton: Ira Bowman beat incumbent Carol Wade with 274 votes, winning the mayoral seat. Wade received 236 votes. Robert Barrett and Keith Stanley won the at-large seats with 377 and 347 votes, respectively. Doug Petersen won the park board commission seat with 452 votes.
