Muscatine ambulance takes an unplanned detour during call

MUSCATINE, Iowa — What appeared to be a runaway ambulance crashed through a fence and a couple of small trees before coming to a rest in a yard near the intersection of Clay Street and First Avenue, Musca-tine. The incident occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. Sunday.

 Capt. June Anne Gaeta of the Muscatine Fire Department said the vehicle was responding to a medical call at 423 Clay St. when the ambulance began its ascent up a hill.

At the scene, officers from the Muscatine Police Department attempted to determine if someone had stolen and driven the ambulance.

Witnesses told police that no one had exited the vehicle.

According to Gaeta, the incident is under internal investigation, as per city policy.

No one was injured during the incident and the ambulance received only minor damages.
