MUSCATINE, Iowa — Muscatine resident Dennis Fox announced Tuesday that he will run for a seat on the Muscatine School Board in the Sept. 8 election.

Fox is vice president of manufacturing and operations at Bridgestone Bandag and has lived in Muscatine since 1999.

He and his wife, Patricia, have three children, all of whom graduated from Muscatine High School and are now college graduates.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in food science and technology from Ohio State University and a master’s degree in business administration from St. Ambrose University.

Prior to joining Bandag (as it was called then) in 1992,  he worked for Frito-Lay for 15 years.

Since moving to Muscatine, Fox has been involved in many community activities.  He was a core member of the startup team for the Pre-School Alliance and a core designer of Making Tomorrow’s Leaders Today, a leadership program for high school students.

He has served as a Little League baseball coach, an ASA softball coach, a Kid Zone leader at Calvary Church and as a certified trainer in the motivational program, Seven Habits of

Highly Effective People.

He is also a former member of the board of directors of Greater Muscatine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Muscatine United Way.

Fox currently serves as chairman of the Muscatine General Hospital Board of Trustees.

“We have a great school system with fantastic students, teachers, staff, administrators, and parents,” Fox said in a press release.  “The infrastructure is sound, and we are in excellent financial condition. As with any organization, we need to build on these assets and continue to improve.

“My long-term vision for the school system is that every student who graduates from Muscatine High School will be eligible for a fully paid post-high school education.”

There are seven members on the Muscatine School Board. The terms of  Paul Brooks, Tammi Drawbaugh, and Joyce Haller expire this year.

The other four are Clyde Evans, Robin Krueger, Jerry Lange and Tom Welk. Their terms expire in 2011.
