MUSCATINE, Iowa — The campaign of Gov. Tom Tancredo, R-Colorado, says an e-mail sent Friday cancelling and rescheduling supporters’ buses to the Iowa straw poll was a hoax.
“It’s a blast e-mail designed to cause confusion,” said Eric Rosenthal of Cedar Rapids, who chairs Tancredo’s presidential campaign in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District.
The e-mail falsely claimed nine buses, including one leaving from the Muscatine Mall parking lot, had been cancelled.
“There’s no cancellations,” Rosenthal said.
The bus will depart from the Muscatine Mall, 1903 Park Ave., at 7:45 a.m.
The hoax e-mail listed 40 other pick-up locations, many with changed departure times.
Schedule changes have not been made for the Saturday buses to Ames, he said.
Rosenthal said the e-mail originated from a gmail.com account. The sender does not appear to have obtained the campaign’s e-mail list, he said.
Rosenthal said the campaign communicates with supporters via first-class mail.
