MUSCATINE, Iowa – The Muscatine County auditor has released the names of city council and mayoral candidates. The election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.
Atalissa
Mayor Joe Blick’s term ends, with no candidate for mayor. At Large council members Dennis Hepker and Michael D. Haller’s terms are ending, with only Haller running for re-election.
Conesville
Mayor Darrell D. Bennett is running for re-election with no opponents. At Large council members Susan O’Donnell and Dustin Juhl’s terms are ending, with only O’Donnell running for re-election.
Fruitland
Mayor William L. Brockert’s term is ending, and he is not seeking re-election. Jerry Miller and DeWayne A. Walter are running for the mayoral office. At Large council members Miller, Judy Knouse and Rick Honts’ terms are ending, with Honts and Knouse running for re-election against Perry Anderson, Ryan Hoeg and Scott Wilson.
Muscatine
Mayor Dick O’Brien’s term is ending but O’Brien, Dawnese Openshaw and Kim Otto are running for the mayoral seat. Council members Marie Press, Bob Howard and Bob Bynum Jr.’s terms are ending, with only Bynum running for re-election for Ward Four. Mark LeRette is running for Press’s Ward Two; Allen Harvey, Scott Natvig and Devin Pettit are running for Howard’s At Large seat.
Nichols
Mayor Sonya Wilson’s term is ending, with no mayor candidate. At Large council members Richard Hillyer, Russ Grim, Ron Oostendorp, Jamie Kirk and Deb Williams’ terms are ending, with only Grim, Hillyer and Oostendorp running for re-election and Marvin Wilson running as well.
Stockton
Mayor Doug DeWitt’s term is ending and he is not seeking re-election. Donald Woodford Sr. is running as the only mayoral candidate. At Large council members Derryl VanDee and Gary Holtz’s terms are ending, with only Holtz running for re-election against Robert Bennett and David D. Clark.
West Liberty
Mayor Chad Thomas is running for re-election. At Large council members Jose Elizondo and Robert Hartman’s terms are ending, but both are running for re-election along with Clinton Esbenshade.
Wilton
Mayor Carol J. Wade is running for re-election against Ira Bowman. At Large council members Robert Barrett and Keith Stanley are both running for re-election.
At Large Park Board member Doug Petersen is also running for re-election for the same post.
Empty mayoral and council seats will be filled with majority write-in candidates. If the write-in candidate turns the position down, the next write-in candidate is offered the seat.
