Marie Evelyn Schmeichel will celebrate her 100th birthday with a card shower from 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at Oaknoll Retirement Residence, in the Hope dining room, 1 Oaknoll Court, Iowa City.

All family and friends are invited.

She requests, no gifts.

Mrs. Schmeichel was born May 16, 1909, in Capa, S.D., the daughter of Jake and Mamie Sanger Snyders.

She has two daughters, Ann Farland, Coralville, Iowa and Linda Clausen, Kalona, Iowa.

She married Arthur Schmeichel March 18, 1934. He is deceased.

There are three grandchildren, Molly Bentley, Michele Watkins and  Mary Ann Stratton.

There are six great-grandchildren.

She received a normal degree from Coe College.

She taught country school in Iowa for several years. Later she was employed as a legal secretary in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was a seamstress in her home for many, many years, doing alterations and continued it at Oaknoll until age 98.

When men’s short sleeved shirts became popular, Bremer’s Men Store sent her their long sleeved shirts to alter.

She lived in Muscatine from 1934-50.

Her husband worked as a printer at the Muscatine Journal from the mid 1920s until 1950, then moved to Iowa City.

She plays bridge, watches the Chicago Cubs and spends time with family and friends.
