Woman arrested for second-degree theft

MUSCATINE, Iowa — A Muscatine woman faces a second-degree theft charge for writing checks from a closed account.
Corie Cottrell, 31, 1646 Lindle Ave., was arrested Monday, and released from jail after posting a $5,000 surety bond.
Cottrell wrote checks totalling $3,805.48 to businesses from the closed account between April 18 and Nov. 10, according to court documents.
Second-degree theft is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 8.
