WEST LIBERTY, Iowa —

Thomas E. Hamer, 55, died Monday Nov. 10, 2008, at his home following a brief illness.

The Rev. Dennis Martin will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Riverside. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be made at www.hendersonbarkerfuneralhome.com.

Mr. Hamer was born Oct. 2, 1953, in Iowa City, the son of Robert and Patricia Shebek Hamer. He was a graduate of West Branch High School. He married Colleen Bertling May 20, 197.

He owned Hamer Trucking for many years. He enjoyed barbecue cooking, watching dirt track racers No. 25 and No. 20 and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Colleen; two daughters, Amie Hamer and Katie Simpson and husband, Chad; two grandchildren, Peyton and Clay Simpson; his mother, Patricia Hamer; six brothers, Steve Hamer and wife, Karen, Terry Hamer and wife,  Charlene, Tim Hamer and wife, Tammi, Rob Hamer and wife, Barb, Dean Hamer and wife, Denise, Jamie Hamer and wife, Jessica; two sisters, Deb Mills and husband, Virgil and Barb Paul and husband, Mike; three brothers-in-law, Dave Bertling and wife, Sharleen, Gary Bertling and wife, Joyce and Roger Bertling and (Alexa Shabecoff).

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hamer.
