Service: 10 a.m., Monday, May 19 at San Miguel Catholic Church, Socorro, N.M. Visitation: 1-5 p.m., Sunday, May 18, Steadman-Hall Funeral Home, Socorro, with rosary at 7 p.m. at church.
SOCORRO, N.M. — David I. Norman, 67, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008 in Ghana, Africa.
Rev. Andy Pavlak, of San Miguel Catholic Chuch in Socorro, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Stanly Colburn, Patrick Radabaugh, David Radabaugh, Christopher Wilkowoske and Frederick Partey.
Mr. Norman was born June 8, 1940, in Willmar, Minn., to Lester D. and Dorothy F. (Kelly) Norman. He married Mary A. Fishburn in 1976, and they spent 1976-78 in Norway before settling down in Socorro, where he was a professor at New Mexico Tech until his passing.
Mr. Norman graduated from Willmar High School in 1958 and got a bachelors degree in physics from the University of Minnesota. He served in the Peace Corps from 1966-1968. He received his doctorate degree in geology from the University of Minnesota in 1976.
He was a member of the San Miguel Catholic Church and a working member of several scientific associations.
Mr. Norman is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary; son Paul Norman of Socorro; daughters Kirsten Norman of Albuquerque, N.M., and Anna Norman of Iowa City, Iowa; sisters Mary (Doug) Wilkowske of Willmar, Barbara (Stan) Colburn of Andover, Minn.; and Patty (John) Radabaugh of Willmar; and an aunt, Helen McNab of Oregon.
He will be missed dearly by his family, students, colleagues and friends.
