ANAMOSA, Iowa – Wilton qualified three of the six wrestlers it brought to the state tournament this week, two as district champions at the very tough Class 2A Anamosa district meet Saturday.

The Beavers’ Kyle Paulsen (112) and Ryan Hand (140) were the district champions for coach Ryan Dohrmann’s squad.

Paulsen won by a 5-0 decision over Marcus Breeden of Maquoketa while Hand worked a 12-4 major decision against Anamosa’s Derek Young.

Also qualifying as district runner-up was Taylor Hammes at 130 pounds. Hammes lost a close 5-3 decision against Davenport Assumption’s Brody Grothus. There was no wrestleback.

West Delaware was the district champion with 135 team points. Wilton finished third behind Davenport Assumption, 104.5-67.5.

Two Wilton seniors were knocked out in wrestlebacks – Tigue Snider lost by decision against Assumption’s Landon Williams and Tyler Thompson was pinned by Camanche’s state finalist Joe Thomas in 34 seconds.
