   MUSCATINE, Iowa - Maurice Allen "Maurie" Reed, 80, Muscatine, died Sunday, April 29, 2007, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

   The Rev. Teressa Clark will officiate. There will be a private burial at Greenwood Cemetery.

   Mr. Reed was born Nov. 7, 1926, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Charles R. and Louise Elizabeth Clark Reed. He married Donna J. Meadema on June 14, 1952, at Park Congregational Church, Grand Rapids.

   He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a radioman aboard a troop transport ship.

   He graduated from Creston High School, Grand Rapids, in 1944. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Albion College, Albion, Mich., in 1950, and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received a master of science degree from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., in 1952, and loved to cheer for the Michigan State University Spartans.

   He began his career as a research microbiologist with Grain Processing Corp. in 1952. In 1963, he joined Kent Feeds as a sales administrator and regional sales manager and served in that capacity until 1974, when he became vice president of marketing for Americana Seeds. He served as president and CEO of Americana Seeds from 1977-84. He then returned to Kent Feeds and was senior vice president of sales and marketing from 1984-91, retiring in 1991, after 39 years with the same company.

   He was a 30+ year member of Rotary Club and past president and honorary Paul Harris fellow. He was a member of Iowa Lodge No. 2 AF & AM, BPO Elks No. 304, Elks Chanters for 47 years and the Notables Quartet for 46 years. He served on the Muscatine Community School Board of Education for six years and as president for two years. He was a charter member of Faith United Church of Christ, served on the Vestry and was a choir member for 54 years. He was a member of the 33 Club and served as president. He was a member of the Muscatine County Conservation Board, the United Way Board and was a Meals on Wheels volunteer. He served on the American Feed Industries Association Marketing Committee as chair and the American Seed Trade Association as a committee chair.

   He was well known for his quick wit and fun-loving sense of humor. His love of music was evident throughout his lifetime, having sung in the acapella choir in high school, the Blue Jacket Choir at Great Lakes Naval Training Center, the Chanters and Notables and the church choir.

   Hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes for him, especially with his son, Jeff, and grandson, Jake. He loved to play golf and truly enjoyed the friendships of his long-time golfing buddies.

   "Maurie", "Dad", "Grandpa Honey", "Gramps", "Poppu", and "Poppa" will be sorely missed by his loving family. His favorite times were those when all of the family could be together.

   Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years; two daughters, Nancy E. Hultquist and husband Douglas of Rock Island, Ill. and Caroline K. Martin and husband Daniel of New Milford, Conn.; a son, Jeffrey C. Reed and wife Cheryl of Muscatine; six grandchildren, Sarah and Amy Hultquist, Jacob Reed and Hannah, Rebecca and Elizabeth Martin; two brothers, Robert M. Reed of Grand Rapids, Lawrence L. Reed and wife Mary Ellen of Sunnyvale, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Cleo Jesse of Grand Rapids; and nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles R. Reed.
