MUSCATINE, Iowa - Ruth Garnet Vetter Phillips, 100, died Friday, March 16, 2007, after a lengthy illness at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living Center.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips was born Jan. 27, 1907, in Muscatine, the daughter of Allie M. Teel Vetter and Fred C. Vetter. She married Sherwood R. Phillips on March 4, 1927, in Rockford, Ill. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1956.
She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1924 and attended National Park Seminary in Washington, D.C. and the University of Iowa, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority.
She was active in her father's business, the Hawkeye Button Co.; was a volunteer for the Red Cross; a national officer of Gamma Phi Beta; served as mother advisor for Rainbow; was a member of Eastern Star, Chapter JR of PEO and the Presbyterian Church.
She enjoyed traveling and spent summers in Estes Park, Colo., where she was active in the Summer Residents Association.
Survivors include three children, Frederick S. Phillips and wife Patricia of Colorado Springs, Colo., Suzanne R. Hirsch and husband Herbert of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Martha A. Allbright of Littleton, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, two sisters and her husband.
